Goku versus Sephiroth

The Planet Earth has faced many great dangers in the past, but always they were defeated due in large to one man. That man was called Son Goku and he was a great hero. Although the people of the planet lived their lives, more often than not completely unaware of Goku's brave and selfless deeds. That had always been just fine with Goku, who never sought fame or fortune. No . . . Goku enjoyed fighting. It was thrilling and he found it to be great fun.

However . . . as time passed on, Goku found himself with somewhat of a dilemma. While the people of Earth knew nothing of his great feats to protect them, the vicious villains who sought to enslave or destroy the third planet from the sun were very familiar with him. Those with great egos charged on ahead, believing that they could defeat Goku where so many others had failed. Of course, Goku stopped them and proved that he was superior.

There came a day when the only fiends left were realistic enough to know they could not defeat Goku. Time passed, and while the usual hardships still plagued the planet, there were no more invaders or aliens or monsters who sought to destroy Earth. Fear of Goku had become too great. Son Goku could still fight in the World Martial Arts Tournaments – but they were never any fun anymore. He was so strong, he always won!

Only a few people could rival him in strength – such as Gohan or Vegeta – and he had fought with them so many times it had become boring! Son Goku soon found himself bored, and eventually, depressed. There was no challenge left in his favorite activity and it seemed like he would never again feel the sheer excitement of a true battle.

As it was, Goku resided himself back to his simple home. He lived his life as normally as he could; that is until his wife sent him on an errand. Chi-Chi, his beloved wife of many years, sent Goku on a simple quest: go to the supermarket and buy a loaf of bread. Goku obliged his wife and made a quick trip. It was there, in Isle Number Nine, that inspiration struck the spiky-haired man.

“Hmm?” Goku looked up on the shelf beside the bread counter and he saw a jar of pickled ham. On that jar's label was a design of a small ball with three stars in the center. Goku's eyes lit up like a child who just found his birthday present a week early; a obvious solution to his problem had struck him like a blow.

“The Dragon Balls!” Goku exclaimed suddenly, frightening the people in the store around him. Goku quickly turned and zipped out of the store, completely forgetting the bread his wife had requested. How could he think of bread at a time like this? He knew what he must do.

With speed the likes of wish even a blue hedgehog would be envious of, Goku dashed around the globe, collecting seven small orange balls. Each of them was adorned with a star amount – from one to seven – and it was this symbol that identified them as Dragon Balls. Upon collecting the final one – the four star ball that had once belonged to his grandfather – he sat all seven down on the side of a mountain.

Goku stood on the edge of a narrow cliff that overlooked a deep chasm. The grass beneath his feet was green and the sky above his head as blue as a ocean. Goku grinned like a happy child as he summoned the Dragon – Shenlong.

“Goku . . . You have one wish for collecting the Dragon Balls . . . make it now!” The Dragon demanded.

“Well . . . I'm getting older . . . and there's no one left to fight! Freiza, Cell, Buu . . . seems  like all the big monsters who made me struggle and grow in the past have been destroyed, and no new ones will come. So . . . I want to fight the most powerful monster who ever existed!” Goku grinned.

“Goku. It's irresponsible and reckless to unleash that kind of evil on the world.” A stern voice caught Goku's ear, and as the orange-suited hero turned his head, he could see Piccolo standing behind him. As usual, Piccolo's arms were crossed and his eyes narrowed tight.

“I . . .” Goku had no excuse.

“I understand. You feel like you have to do this. Fine . . . but wish to be taken TOO that evil, don't bring it here. That way, if you die, it won't destroy the world.” Piccolo was as charming and optimistic as ever.

Goku grinned. “That's a great idea! Dragon – I wish to be taken to the most powerful evil that has ever existed!”

The dragon looked at Goku with a cold face. “So be it.” With those three little words, the dragon's eyes became aglow with the brightest, whitest light that Goku had ever seen. The lights engulfed Son Goku and he vanished from that cliff top. When he was gone, the dragon balls scattered across the far reaches of the earth, and Piccolo was left alone to ponder the fate of his friend.

The City of Nibelheim is a small and peaceful town, but high in the mountains beyond the city lies one of the Shinra Electric Company's Mako Reactors. That reactor is anything but peaceful. Horrible beasts lurk through the shadows, though the most sinister of all was the one who looked the most human.

A white light filled the room, flushing out the shadows. The silence which had stood still for such a long time was shattered as Goku appeared out of thin air. The young man let loose a mighty yawn and surveyed the room, looking left and right. The darkness had settled back down when the light left Goku's body, but the young saiyan knew he was not alone. He could sense the power of another . . . and he felt a shiver run down his spine.

The power level he sensed was incredible. Beyond anything he had ever seen before. Goku's ears perked up as he heard the sound of footsteps. He spun his head around and spotted the faint outline of a man standing amidst a sea of shadow.

“. . .” No words slipped from the mouth of the man as he took another step forward, his leather boots making a faint noise as he moved. Goku could see him better now and had he not already learned lessons about judging a adversary by appearance alone, he would not he taken the man with long silver hair and a sunken, pale face to be the greatest evil who ever existed.

However . . . Goku peered into the man's eyes. Dark rings had disrupted his unnaturally pale skin, and his eyes themselves were glowing with a bluish-teal light that would have made a lesser man uneasy. However, Goku was not a whiny man with a overgrown sword; he had been in this situation enough times to know how to control his fear, and even eliminate it completely.

Sephiroth reached down to his waist, and Goku noticed the sword. The moment Sephiroth's fingers clenched around the handle of his masamune, Goku wondered if this would really be the fight of his life. A split second later, Goku jumped away as Sephiroth moved so quickly his entire movement could have been missed with a single blink. Sephiroth was behind Goku, and his sword was freed of its sheathe and coated in blood.

Goku had dodged quickly enough to avoid getting a serious cut; but his skin had been broken by the blade. He looked down at his torn shirt and the drops of red that stained his usual orange garb and he knew that – at least in terms of speed – Sephiroth was as much as the dragon had promised him.

“Alright . . . this could be fun!” Goku grinned to himself, and then he launched forward aiming a furiously strong and insanely fast kick right at the silver haired man's head. Goku's foot hit only the air, Sephiroth had moved away and now it was Goku's turn to dodge as Sephiroth's blade came dangerously close to separating Goku's head from his body. It was only because Goku was so fast.

Sephiroth was ruthless. He came forward and slashed once again, then he tried to stab Goku in the stomach. Still, Goku was able to dodge these attacks as well. Though, even someone as skilled as Goku was having difficulty in keeping away from the blade.

Sephiroth jumped up and slashed at Goku's face, but Goku teleported behind the one-winged angel and finally landed a kick to Sephiroth's shoulder blade. Sephiroth was knocked to the ground, but he rolled as soon as he hit and a few feet away he got back to his feet and held his hand out.

“. . . Firaga.”

Goku did not have time to think about the fact this was the first time Sephiroth had spoken to him. A giant ball of fire had erupted from Sephiroth's hand and flown straight at Goku. Flames seemed to appear in the air around him and Goku felt the flames licking his skin and filling him with pain. A lesser man would have succumb to his pain and allowed himself to be burnt to death – not Goku.

Goku flew from out of the flames and arrived at Sephiroth in seconds. He threw punches and kicks at a speed that a normal eye could not follow. Punch after punch and kick after kick landed and bruises and welts began to form on the body of the fiend.

When he was thrown back, Goku found several cuts across his hands and on his legs. Apparently Sephiroth had been quick enough to slash Goku a few times during the assault. Goku had to admit, this guy was better than most of the people he'd fought . . . but on the other hand, Goku had hardly used any of his special techniques.

Goku jumped back, flipping over a large tube on the floor. He struck a pose and cupped his hands together. A light began to shimmer between his palms and the spiky-haired youth called upon one of his most devastating techniques. It was the ultimate ability taught to him by Master Roshi many years ago, and now he would unleash it.

“Ka . . .”

Sephiroth stood still as stone.

“. . . me . . .”

Sephiroth didn't even blink.

“Ha . . .”

Sephiroth watched Goku watch him like a hawk. Sephiroth held up his sword above him and he turned his eyes upward.

“. . . me . . .”

At the same time that Goku thrust his arms forward, cried out the last “Ha!” and unleashed his wave technique, Sephiroth yelled out his second word: “Reflect.”

Yellow light flashed around Sephiroth's body, it seemed to flow out of his sword and surround his body like a blanket of shimmering gold. The blast of energy bounced from the front of his reflect and shot back at Goku, causing the World Martial Art's Champion to be hit with his own ability. He had not finished expelling his energy, which was good because he wasn't hit with his full power . . . but bad because it had kept him from dodging.

Goku was thrown across the room and slammed into the wall. There were several holes ripped in his shirt and even more cuts and tears in his skin. Goku was bleeding now, and it wasn't just because of a shallow cut from a sword. The heroic Z Warrior who had saved the world on numerous occasions was now in a fight for his life – and finally he knew it.

Sephiroth was still holding his sword above his head, but now the reflect was gone. Goku suspected another attack so he launched himself forward and – after charging some ki in his hand – he open-palm punched the sword out of Sephiroth's hands. The ki protected his own hand and it helped him seperate Sephiroth from his blade.

However . . . Sephiroth looked up at him and held out his hand. “Blizzaga!” A gust of snow and ice erupted from his fingertips and covered Goku from head to toe. Goku was freezing cold – and then he was frozen solid.

Sephiroth saw Goku's body covered in a thick block of ice and he quickly grabbed it. He hurled it against the wall, and the aged wall gave way, allowing the ice block to break right through and fall onto the rocky side of Mt. Nibelhelm.

After picking up his sword, Sephiroth hurried out of the hole and aimed his sword's blade at the block of ice. Electricity started cracking around his masamune. Sephiroth planned to unleash a blast of thunder at the iceberg. The ice would conduct the charge and kill Goku.

Super Saiyan Goku (Ending B)

“Thundaga!” A blast of electricity shot from the tip of his sword and flew swiftly towards the block of ice. The ice shattered into pieces, which attracted the lightning towards them. Goku had broken free, and he'd decided to change his appearance. His hair was even spikier than before, and now it was glowing blond. Lightning sparked around him, but not because of Sephiroth's attack.

Goku began to charge his powers. Being hit with his own KameHameHa had taken a lot out of him, and being frozen didn't help matters at all . . . but he could still defeat Sephiroth – he knew he could! He shot forward like a bullet and began to punch and kick with a ruthless, unstoppable speed. Sephiroth could not move fast enough to stop him and as he tried to block, his sword was broken into pieces by Goku's punch.

Afterwards, Sephiroth was thrown backwards. His face was bleeding and his sword was broken. He stumbled and fell onto one knee. It seemed as if the will to fight had been knocked out of his body in the barrage of fists and feet that engulfed him seconds ago.

Goku held up his hands above his head. He knew what he must do. He had to channel all of his strength into one, massive blast of ki. Then he could unleash it and engulf Sephiroth . . . destroying the fiend forever.

Goku began to focus. All of his physical, mental and spiritual power was rushing to his hands. A brilliant golden glow engulfed his palms and a ball of light began to form. Goku would smash Sephiroth beneath a boulder of pure energy.

All at once, a black wing exploded from out of Sephiroth's back. He shot forward as fast as the speediest of trains and as he flashed by Goku, his wing seemed to pass right through Goku's waist. When Sephiroth came to a stop, once again down on one knee, his black wing was stained red.

Goku gasped. The wing had been even sharper than the sword. Goku closed his eyes, the energy he had been gathering fell onto his hands and in seconds he was engulfed by his own powers. When the gold light finally faded, Son Goku was gone.

“. . .” Sephiroth had no words. He stood up and turned around. Slowly he walked away.

Son Goku, Earth's Greatest Champion, had been no match for Midgar's Greatest Foe.
